Simon Webb began his career as a cellist, working in orchestras in the UK, Portugal, Hong Kong and Ireland before joining the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 1996. He chaired the LPO’s board of directors from 2001-2005. On leaving the LPO in 2005 Simon worked in various roles for concert promoters and Arts Council England before joining the CBSO as Director of Orchestral Management in 2008.
As Director of the BBC Philharmonic Simon has built close ties with the Royal Northern College of Music and Manchester University to support student composers and conductors and with University of Salford developing new technologies to reach new audiences. In 2015, he was appointed a governor of Chethams School of Music. Simon was elected Chair of the ABO Board in November 2020.
