Association of British Orchestras

Assistant Publicist

BBC Proms £28 - 30k Closing date 15 March 2021
The BBC Proms is the biggest classical music festival in the world. We run over 100 live events over 2 months in the summer at the Royal Albert Hall in London and venues around the UK. Nearly everything we do is broadcast across BBC Radio, TV and online. We are a creative, innovative festival that connects with audiences around the UK and across the globe.

You would be part of a dynamic team that looks after Communications, Marketing, Learning, Publications, Business and Live Events. You will build skills in your chosen area and everyone on the team has a chance to work at events. It’s a real team effort.

In any single week at the BBC Proms you could be working on events for singer-songwriter Laura Marling, the London Symphony Orchestra with conductor Simon Rattle, sitar-player Anoushka Shankar and the BBC Orchestras and Choirs.

We want the Proms to be for everyone and are looking for people to help us do that.

We’re looking for an Assistant Publicist to join the Communications Team for the BBC Proms. Your role contributes to delivering a wide-reaching proactive press campaign across all media platforms with a particular focus on reaching new, diverse audiences, and handling digital press and influencers. We are a small team that works very closely with the Marketing, Learning and Live Events teams at the Proms, and there are opportunities to grow your skills in all these areas.

You’ll also get the opportunity to work in collaboration with other teams across the BBC, including corporate communications, the BBC Orchestras and Choirs, BBC Radio and TV networks, BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer, as well as external arts, cultural and media organisations.

We are looking for someone who can:

- Work and communicate collaboratively with a wide range of people.
- Bring a creative, imaginative and innovative approach to reaching audiences through live and digital platforms
- Show their commitment to creating inclusive opportunities for people of all backgrounds to participate in arts and culture
- Show an enthusiasm for music and live events.
