The Royal College of Music (RCM) is one of the world's greatest conservatoires. Our excellence was recognised by the 2019 QS World University Rankings, in which we ranked as the top institution for performing arts in the UK for the fourth consecutive year. The RCM achieved an overall rating of gold for its outstanding teaching and learning provision for undergraduates in the first ever Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). In recent years the RCM has emerged as a leader within its sector in the use of technology, providing a range of advanced digital services to support learning, teaching and administration.

We are seeking a people-focused and technically-skilled Deputy Technology Manager. Based in South Kensington, they will lead the RCM Technology Service Desk operation and its team (currently 4 staff), ensuring optimal support and first-class levels of customer service for around 1700 students, professors and staff users of IT and other digital services.

The Deputy Technology Manager also leads on a wide range of technical projects, focusing especially on:
• IT and network infrastructure
• server management
• storage, and
• hardware

Recent building projects have led to a major expansion and update of our network provision along with the move to a new external data centre and several essential platforms to the cloud. We are about to embark on the next phase of our digital strategy which will closely involve the new Deputy Technology Manager and will focus on:
• streamlining access to our platforms
• migrating more of our infrastructure to the cloud, and
• renewing our storage provision

Reporting to the RCM Technology Manager, with whom they will jointly own the portfolio of technical projects, the post holder is a senior member of the RCM Digital department and acts as a senior technical advisor to senior managers and the Estates department. They also manage the relationship with our outsourced managed service provider and provide third-line support in specialist areas themselves when required.

This role would suit someone with high level interpersonal, customer service, project management and technical skills, ideally with some previous managerial experience in a similar internal support environment. A genuine interest in digital technology, education and/or music technology would also be highly advantageous.

This post is offered on a permanent, full-time basis and is available from early March 2020.
