Coronavirus - advice for ABO members

The Government has issued guidance to assist employers and businesses in providing advice to staff on the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 including: how to help prevent spread of all respiratory infections including COVID-19; what to do if someone with suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 has been in a workplace setting; what advice to give to individuals who have travelled to specific areas; and advice for the certification of absence from work resulting from Covid-19.

The Government has issued guidance to assist employers and businesses in providing advice to staff on:

  • the novel coronavirus, COVID-19
  • how to help prevent spread of all respiratory infections including COVID-19
  • what to do if someone with suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 has been in a workplace setting
  • what advice to give to individuals who have travelled to specific areas, as outlined by the Chief Medical Officer
  • advice for the certification of absence from work resulting from Covid-19

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised against all travel to Hubei Province due to the ongoing novel coronavirus outbreak, and against all but essential travel to the rest of mainland China (not including Hong Kong and Macao).

It has also advised against all but essential travel to Daegu and Cheongdo in South Korea, and against all but essential travel to 10 small towns in Lombardy and one in Veneto which have been isolated by the Italian authorities.

The ABO took part in a conference call with the Deputy Chief Medical Officer arranged by the DCMS. This confirmed that there are currently no plans to force the cancellation of events, not least because events are not in themselves any riskier than other day to day interactions. However, this will be kept under review.

We are grateful to IAMA for letting us make available their factsheet on Covid-19 and its impact on contractual obligations.

Annual Conference

The next conference will be held in London from 20-22 January 2021,
hosted by London Mozart Players and Fairfield Halls.
