Sinfonia Cymru is an innovative and progressive chamber orchestra from Wales made up of professional musicians in the early stages of their careers. The orchestra performs a diverse programme of performances every year. In 2014, it gave 44 performances to over 13,000 people including performances at the Bristol Proms, Llangollen International Eisteddfod, and concerts tours across Wales and Europe. Later this year the orchestra joins a list of guests including Sting, Danielle de Niese, Rebecca Evans and Catrin Finch for a special concert to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Internationally renowned bass-baritone Bryn Terfel. Sinfonia Cymru established Curate in 2013, a pilot project enabling a group of young musicians to explore their creative ambition by commissioning and producing their own projects. These included the flagship UnButtoned and Unease immersive events, as well as the orchestra’s classical pub gig Quartet and Silent Film event at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff. Sinfonia Cymru works with the prestigious Young Classical Artists Trust to create opportunities for the next generation of solo artists as well as a number of celebrated guest artists including Bryn Terfel, Catrin Finch, Llŷr Williams, Carlo Rizzi, Rachel Podger, and Alina Ibragimova. Sinfonia Cymru’s Community and Education Programme is an integral part of the orchestra’s activities. Every year the orchestra visits schools, hospitals and residential centres, reaching communities across Wales through music. Recently, in partnership with Bristol Proms, Sinfonia Cymru has delivered The Gift Of Music, a music-based project in schools across Bristol.
