Development Manager
Music in the Round £19,675 (FTE £32,791 per annum) Closing date 16 June 2025
Background
Music in the Round is the leading national producer of chamber music, with a year-round programme of hundreds of events for people of all ages. For over 40 years we have been bringing people and music closer together through our friendly and informative style of ‘in the round’ performances. We present concerts and the Sheffield Chamber Music Festival each year at our home venue, the Crucible Playhouse, as well as activity across the city and in partnership with venues around the country. Our events are characterised by passion, excellence and proximity. We connect people to music by presenting music in intimate venues, with amazing artists playing spine-tingling music with their heart and soul, often accompanied by lively spoken introductions.
Music in the Round is seeking a Development Manager who is passionate about what we do, and can develop excellent relationships with a wide range of funders, supporters, donors, participants, staff and organisations. Getting to know existing supporters and Trustees is vital, as is gaining a thorough understanding of our wide range of activity and musicians. This role involves submitting bids to trusts and foundations in collaboration with the Chief Executive, Head of Programmes and with support from other colleagues in the organisation, including identifying new funding opportunities and writing applications. It also includes creating a cultivation plan to develop and inspire increased support from existing and new supporters, working closely with the Chief Executive and Trustees, as well as take the lead on approaches to existing supporters and new donors.
Music in the Round has supporters who have been involved with us since our earliest beginnings in the 1980s, as well as new ones joining us today. We are looking for someone who can build on the warmth many people have towards the organisation as we plan our activity for the future and move into Harmony Works. We are looking for a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion in the way we reach out to people in every aspect of our work, and for someone who can help us secure vital support for our activity across the country.
The Development Manager will work across all income streams, primarily focusing on trusts & foundations as well as individual giving and business development. This includes developing and securing new relationships whilst nurturing our current supporters and Friends who have such a strong relationship with Music in the Round. Instigating and overseeing a range of initiatives and events to seek new opportunities within the local area, this role will work closely with the Chief Executive, Trustees and staff to develop and implement a fundraising strategy that expands the range and breadth of our sources of income.
