Based in London at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, the Philharmonia creates thrilling performances for a global audience. Through its network of residencies, the Orchestra has a national footprint, serving communities across England both in performance and through its extensive outreach and engagement programme.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Events Manager responsible for the curation and delivery of the Development Department events. This newly created role will manage the events programme to support and contribute to the fundraising activities of the organisation, build and grow our wider external stakeholder group and support our advocacy work. Events will be primarily focused around concerts at the Royal Festival Hall, London but will also include activity in our thriving residencies in Bedford, Leicester, Canterbury, Basingstoke, Three Choirs Festival and Garsington Opera, as well as international touring and studio and recording work.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Management and overall responsibility for Philharmonia and Development Department events, including membership, stewardship and cultivation events as dictated by the needs of the organisation, ensuring the programme is creative and engaging
• Liaise with other PO departments and internal and external stakeholders to support the planning and delivery of events, building structures and processes to enable an efficient centralised events function
• Build close relationships with external contacts of the Orchestra to deepen partnerships with existing supporters; and to broaden the range of relationships
• Plan, budget and deliver the Royal Gala attended by the Philharmonia’s Royal Patron working closely with the Development Director, Chair and other key stakeholders. N.B. Royal Galas do not occur event year
• Keep all event-related activity recorded on the Tessitura database including event income, guest attendance and biographical information
• Identify and research potential event sponsors in liaison with the Head of Individual Giving and Corporate Relations Manager
• Work with Development colleagues to sell tickets for fundraising events
• Manage relationships with some of the Orchestra’s in-kind sponsors (in liaison with the Corporate Relations Manager/ Head of Individual Giving)
• Successful management of corporate sponsorship events at the Royal Festival Hall and elsewhere (often working with client event managers) in association with the Corporate Relations Manager

Amongst the qualities you will need to possess are:

• The ability to think laterally and develop creative and appropriate events for the wide range of Philharmonia supporters
• Confidence when managing complex budgets
• The ability to negotiate with suppliers and other contacts
• A team player with a positive approach and ability to undertake initiatives
• A proactive attitude to contributing to achieving the team’s fundraising target

You must also have substantial professional experience in event management.
