Head of Community

Britten Pears Arts £40,000 Closing date 20 February 2023
Britten Pears Arts is a pioneering cultural charity based in Suffolk. It emerged from the determination of composer Benjamin Britten and his partner, singer Peter Pears, to ensure that everyone could enjoy and experience music. Britten Pears Arts aims to continue their legacy to develop talent, celebrate their heritage and engage with communities.

The Community department at Britten Pears Arts was established over 20 years ago and has been delivering excellent innovative work at a national, as well as local and regional, level. The departure of the current Head of Community now opens an exciting opportunity for an experienced arts professional to join the organisation to lead, innovate and represent the department’s work.

This role includes strategic and artistic planning for the department, and forms part of the Music Leadership team at Britten Pears Arts, which is led by the Music Programme Director. We create innovative music, heritage and collections projects in collaboration with those in our local community as well as regionally and nationally, bringing together people of all backgrounds to support improved health and wellbeing, stronger communities, and the development of quality work in this area on a national level.

We’re looking for someone who can confidently question and develop our existing work and bring new ideas, whilst supporting a team of experienced Producers to flourish. Other essential criteria include:

• a proven track record of developing and delivering music-based community programmes & events
• experience of working at the intersection of Arts, Health & Wellbeing and an understanding of this
area of work at national level
• long-term project planning experience
• team leadership experience gained in the arts sector
• budget setting & management experience

We are an equal opportunities employer and believe that diversity strengthens and enriches us. We positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates of all ages and from all backgrounds, in particular from minority groups and disabled candidates who are currently under-represented at Britten Pears Arts.
