Head of Finance (part-time)
National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS) £40,000-45,000 per annum (Pro Rata) Closing date 03 September 2025
The Head of Finance will play a key role within NYOS, ensuring that our strategic objectives and
operational delivery are supported by sound financial planning and robust controls, and that our
systems and processes are both effective and efficient. They will lead on NYOS’s financial strategy,
planning, and statutory compliance, safeguarding the organisation’s long-term financial sustainability.
This is a senior role focused on high-level finance and compliance, with responsibility for overseeing all
NYOS systems and processes, and for working closely with colleagues across the organisation, the
Board, and external stakeholders. The post will currently manage the General Manager, a new role
now under recruitment.
Principal Accountabilities
● Lead the preparation of annual budgets and multi-year forecasts with the CEO and Senior
Management Team.
● Lead the annual audit process: prepare all required year-end financial statements and
supporting schedules, liaise with external auditors, and coordinate the timely completion of
audit fieldwork.
● Oversee cashflow management and financial controls.
● Produce regular management accounts and detailed financial reports for the CEO, Board, and
Finance & General Purposes Committee.
● Manage year-end accounts and audit process, ensuring compliance with OSCR, Companies
House, and statutory regulations.
● Complete and submit HMRC and other statutory returns.
● Maintain and develop Xero accounting system and manage outsourced payroll.
● Support the Development team with funding-related financial reporting.
● Oversee annual fee review and bursary process.
● Work collaboratively with managers across all departments to help them understand their
budgets, monitor expenditure, and forecast future spend.
● Ensure NYOS meets statutory reporting requirements.. Lead on implementing the
sustainability plan towards Net Zero, and annual carbon reporting
