Association of British Orchestras

Head of People

London Symphony Orchestra Up to £50,000 per annum, depending on experience. Closing date 11 April 2022
The London Symphony Orchestra wishes to appoint an experienced HR professional to lead the LSO’s personnel function. The role encompasses all aspects affecting employed staff, and additionally involves supporting the Orchestra Committee in relation to matters relating to self-employed musicians (given the self-governing nature of the Orchestra).

The LSO’s Head of People will be responsible for co-ordinating and implementing personnel policies and procedures and for providing advice and guidance across the organisation, working closely with line managers on all aspects of recruitment, induction, retention and succession planning. The successful candidate will have a proven track-record of HR managerial experience, with exceptional interpersonal and organisational skills.

The Head of People is supported by the LSO’s Finance & Resources Manager who is responsible for day-to-day HR administration. In addition, an HR Partner provides specialist advice on policy and specific issues. Personnel matters within the Orchestra are largely dealt with by the LSO’s Orchestra Committee, although the Head of People will support these from time to time to ensure best practice is followed.

As we embark on a new ten-year strategic plan, the LSO’s Head of People will be a pivotal role to ensure that we develop a diverse, inclusive and welcoming environment in which the LSO’s musicians and staff are able to thrive.

Salary Range: Up to £50,000 per annum, depending on experience.

The closing date for applications is 09:00am on 11 April 2022. Interviews are expected to be held on 12 April and 19 to 21 April 2022.
