Learning and Engagement Officer

City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra £20,525 Per annum Closing date 20 September 2021
The world-renowned City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra is seeking a Learning and Engagement Officer to work across the Learning & Participation and Chorus teams. Each year the CBSO’s Learning & Engagement department provides over 70,000 engagement opportunities through our diverse programme of activity which takes place throughout Birmingham and across the Midlands.

The CBSO’s Learning & Participation programme currently provides performance and workshop opportunities for early years groups through to older people living in residential care, a broad programme of schools-based activities for both mainstream and special schools, partnership programmes with Music Education Hubs for Gifted and Talented pupils and a series of main season orchestral concerts for schools and families.

The CBSO’s choral programme provides opportunities for children and young people to develop their musical and vocal skills across three choirs, all of whom perform regularly with the CBSO at Symphony Hall and beyond. The CBSO Chorus is one of the UK’s leading non-professional symphonic choruses, working with over 200 singers to deliver performances with the CBSO and other orchestras across the UK and internationally.

The Learning & Engagement Officer reports directly to the Learning & Participation Manager but will also work regularly with the Chorus department to support weekly rehearsals. In addition, the Learning & Engagement Officer will work closely with the CBSO’s Planning, Orchestral Management and Marketing departments as well as the members of the CBSO and a cohort of freelance music staff.
