Music Director and Conductor for Young Sinfonia (Freelance)

Sage Gateshead would like to engage an inspirational, energetic, and dynamic musician with a deep knowledge of chamber orchestra repertoire and styles as Music Director and Conductor for Young Sinfonia, the youth orchestra of Sage Gateshead.

Young Sinfonia was established to support young musicians in the North with space to rehearse and perform challenging orchestral music to high standards, and to learn and develop as orchestral musicians.

Enjoying close musical links with Royal Northern Sinfonia, Young Sinfonia reflect their line up and approach to exploring 350 years of chamber orchestra repertoire. Young Sinfonia take part in side by side and sectional sessions with Royal Northern Sinfonia musicians. Young Sinfonia form a central part of Sage Gateshead’s commitment to inclusivity.

In addition to striving for high quality performances, Young Sinfonia focuses on connections to educational and community networks. Young Sinfonia has shared music with audiences of all ages through the RNS Classics4Kids concert series, leading instrument demonstrations for young audiences, creating their own, OrKIDstra, introduction to the orchestra event and performing at Age UK Gateshead.

The Music Director and Conductor for Young Sinfonia is a significant music leadership role. The person appointed will excel at nurturing and developing the creativity, musical potential and performance skills of the players. This role is fixed term January 2022 – July 2024, except for the periods Sep-Dec 2022, and Jan-Mar 2023 & 2024.
