Opera North Cello tutor

Opera North is seeking an inspirational cello tutor to teach enthusiastic young musicians within our Young Musicians Studio on a Saturday morning at Trinity Academy in Leeds. Applications are welcomed from experienced specialist tutors able to lead ensembles and small group instrumental tuition.

Cello Tutor Responsibilities:
• As part of a team of instrumental tutors, plan and deliver instrumental tuition at the ON Young Musicians Studio; integrating musicianship, instrumental skills and ensemble playing and ensuring good technique is being implemented.
• Ensure monitoring and self-evaluation of teaching and learning methods, to track progress of all participants and develop best practice at an individual level and across the wider team.
• Direct ON Young Musicians Studio ensembles at rehearsals, workshops and performances where required.
• Offer musical and programme-related support, advice and expertise to children, staff and parents where appropriate
• Support the Opera North Education team in providing knowledge and practical advice where needed regarding instrument repairs, maintenance and instrument and accessory purchase.
• Attend communication, planning and development meetings with other staff and company representatives as required.

Cello Tutor Requirements:
Essential
• Evidence of solid instrumental music training and a demonstrable high level of musical skill and literacy in the instrument being taught
• Experience of working professionally as an instrumental tutor
• Strong understanding of musical pedagogy in relation to the instrument being taught
• Broad knowledge of repertoire suitable for children and young people in a variety of contexts
• Experience of planning and working towards performances
• Satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Clearance

Desirable
• Experience of working in a professional capacity as a performer

Hours: Part Time, Saturday Music School tuition hours are 0930-1300, additional hours may be available
