Orchestra Administrator
BBC National Orchestra of Wales Band A Closing date 28 January 2022
The BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales occupies a special role as both a BBC broadcast orchestra and the national symphony orchestra of Wales. The Orchestra is generously supported by the Arts Council of Wales and is proud to work with an outstanding group of conductors.
As one of the six BBC Orchestras and Choirs, the Orchestra has a busy schedule of recordings, broadcasts and concerts for BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru, BBC Films and BBC television. Education is also at the heart of our work, developing innovative projects to increase accessibility to classical music and engaging with communities across Wales.
Job Responsibilities
• In conjunction with the Assistant Orchestra Manager, produce the weekly Orchestra Detailed Schedule and the monthly Advanced Schedule, providing timely updates, ensuring all data are recorded appropriately within OPAS.
• Alongside the Artistic Planning Team, ensure the orchestra’s schedule complies with the operating agreement for scheduling work as outlined in the BBC/MU Orchestras’ agreement.
• Produce all Technical Requirements, Player Information Packs and Player Lists in conjunction with members of the Planning and Operations Teams.
• Support the Artists and Projects Manager in organising all aspects of guest artist requirements e.g. accommodation, transport, refreshments.
• Book pianists for soloist/conductor rehearsals.
• Arrange tuning for instruments for all orchestral activity, in liaison with the Assistant Stage and Technical Manager.

• Organise key company meetings including distribution of agendas, supporting documents, production and distribution of minutes, and attend planning, departmental and other production meetings as required.
• Assist the Assistant Orchestra Manager with the running of auditions.
• Attend orchestral events on a regular basis, offering back-stage support to the artists where necessary, shared with the Artists & Projects Manager. BBC NOW performs at venues all over Wales and the UK. Whilst supporting the orchestra’s work we often work outside of standard office hours, and a level of flexibility will be required including weekend working.
