Orchestra Manager (Maternity cover)

Salary: Grade 7, £34,521- £38,327 per annum. Appointments will normally be made to the first point of the grade.

The RCM are looking to recruit an Orchestra Manager to lead the delivery of the orchestra and large ensemble performance programme. The role is based within the busy Performance & Programming team and involves working closely with students, staff, professors and orchestral musicians. The orchestra and large ensemble programme includes performances by Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic, Opera orchestra, New Perspectives, Jazz Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Brass Ensemble. The RCM enjoys close relationships with some of the world’s most celebrated conductors, including Antonio Pappano, Martyn Brabbins, Rafael Payare, John Wilson and Joana Carneiro.
Key duties include:
• Managing and delivering the RCM’s orchestral and large ensemble performance calendar
• Managing student placements
• Engaging preparation conductors and sectional tutors
• Attending visiting conductors at the RCM
• Maintaining RCM relationships with professional musicians and orchestras
The successful candidate will have previous experience of working in an orchestral environment, excellent organisation and communication skills and the ability to prioritise a busy workload. The postholder will be required to work proactively and creatively on a large variety of different projects running simultaneously, maintain a high level of attention to detail and have the ability to remain calm under pressure. A strong working knowledge of classical music and associated performance requirements is desirable.
This post is offered on a fixed-term, full-time basis and is available from early February 2022.
