Founded in 1882, The Royal College of Music (RCM) is a world leading music conservatoire with a prestigious history and contemporary outlook. Our excellence was recognised by the 2023 QS World University Rankings, in which we were ranked as the global top institution for performing arts by Subject.

This post is based in the Britten Theatre. Our Britten Theatre is one of London’s best-loved opera stages – with an orchestra pit and elegant tiered auditorium, it not only hosts our regular opera productions but also a variety of instrumental and ensemble performances. With excellent technical facilities, the theatre is in regular use as the focus of the thriving RCM Opera Studio and hosts 3 full staged operas annually. It also hosts a variety of instrumental performances, including a chamber music series and concerts by the RCM Big Band.

Acclaimed directors, designers and choreographers join us, providing a professional experience within a supportive environment. We have recently staged Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, directed by Stephen Barlow; Jonathan Dove’s Flight, directed by Jeremy Sams; and Orpheus in the Underworld by Offenbach, directed by Louise Bakker. We also present other special projects including biennial fully staged productions of mini-operas written by RCM student composers.
