Sound Recording Professor

Royal College of Music £52.15 per hour Closing date 11 October 2021
JRN: 704-21

The Royal College of Music (RCM) is one of the world's greatest conservatoires. Our excellence was recognised by the 2021 QS World University Rankings, in which we ranked as the top institution for performing arts in the UK for the sixth consecutive year, and top in Europe for second year running.

At the RCM we are passionate about equipping our students with the skills to flourish as 21st Century musicians. Our provision in digital musicianship and music technology is expanding, and we are seeking an experienced and inspirational individual to contribute to teaching in this area.

As a Sound Recording Professor you will teach multiple classes for the undergraduate (FHEQ Level 6) elective module in Sound Recording and Production. Using the RCM’s specialist studio facilities, you will develop students’ practical skills in microphone techniques, editing, and post-production, enabling them to produce high-quality audio recordings. The College’s undergraduate students are classical performers and composers, so the focus for this elective will be classical music production. However we encourage a creative approach that explores connections between classical music practices and other genres.

You will be an experienced sound engineer with a track record of working in classical music. You will be an outstanding communicator who is able to design and deliver engaging practice-led learning activities. You will have previous experience of teaching and assessment at undergraduate level and awareness of inclusive approaches when teaching at this level.

We particularly welcome applications from black, ethnically diverse and female applicants, as these groups are currently under-represented in this area at the College.

This role is available from January 2022, with teaching commencing during w/c 10 January 2022. It is expected that classes for this module will be timetabled on Mondays and/or Thursdays.
