The BBC Symphony Orchestra is one of the UK’s leading orchestras. It has played a central role at the heart of British musical life for over 75 years and has a high profile both in the UK and on the international stage. The BBC SO has an outstanding reputation for its performances of a wide range of music with particular emphasis on 20th century and contemporary music; each year giving the world premieres of a number of works commissioned by BBC Radio 3.
The BBCSO Orchestra and Tours Assistant plays a vital role within the BBC Symphony Orchestra Management team, primarily providing support to the Concert Management Team and Tours Manager. It is an exciting opportunity to gain a broad experience of working with one of the World’s leading broadcasting orchestras, working closely with the live events team as well as with the musicians themselves. You will manage the recruitment and player payment processes as well as providing administrative and logistical support for our concert and touring operations. This will provide you with a broad spectrum of experiences as well as opportunities to become involved in other areas of our operations.
You will ideally have a good awareness of orchestral music and a creative cultural environment. You will have the ability to manage and prioritise a busy workload across a number of different areas, with a flexible & supportive approach & attention to detail. You will have excellent communication skills, with an ability to communicate effectively with professional musicians and with people at all levels. An enjoyment of working as part of a small team, and the ability to empathise will also be key.
