The ABO welcomes the strategy's recognition of the need to support a sustainable music sector. Priorities include removing barriers to international touring, maintaining the value of creative tax reliefs, ensuring Arts Council England reforms strengthen the sector, and exploring new opportunities such as dormant assets funding for a Music in Libraries initiative.

The strategy rightly recognises that music is one of the UK's greatest strengths and that success depends on a thriving music ecosystem. For orchestras, that starts with music education. Every young person, wherever they live and whatever their background, should have the opportunity to learn and take part in live music making, experience the impact on their wellbeing, and develop the skills that support potential future careers in the creative industries - whether as a musician or behind the scenes.

Orchestras already have a strong track record of connecting music education and grassroots opportunities with the professional music sector. Through partnerships with schools, youth groups and other organisations, they provide young people with opportunities to develop skills, encounter professional musicians and understand the range of careers available across the music sector. The ABO welcomes the strategy's focus on strengthening these connections and looks forward to working with both the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Education, including through the new National Centre for Arts and Music Education.
