ABO 70th Anniversary Parliamentary Reception

On 13 March 2018 the Association of British Orchestras celebrated its 70th Anniversary with a parliamentary reception attended by Minister for Culture Michael Ellis MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Culture Tom Watson MP, and the Rt Hon Harriet Harman MP.

ABO Awards 2018

The ABO Conference dinner on 25 January 2018 saw the presentation of ABO Awards and the ABO/Rhinegold Awards for Orchestra Manager, Concert Hall Manager and Artist Manager of the Year.

New Chair of the Association of British Orchestras

Chief Executive of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Gavin Reid, has been elected as the new Chair of the Association of British Orchestras (ABO). He succeeds Kathryn McDowell CBE, Managing Director of the LSO.

The Association of British Orchestras has announced the 2017/18 cohort for the 'Find Your Way' programme, with new funding partnerships with Jerwood Charitable Foundation and Arts Council England.

ABO Announces First Awards From New ‘Sirens’ Fund

The Association of British Orchestras has announced the first recipients from a new fund, ‘Sirens’, with four awards made to UK orchestras for projects to raise the awareness of historic women composers.

General Election Update

The ABO’s public affairs consultants Connect Communications have produced a briefing summarising the key statements and policy proposals contained in the Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat, SNP and Plaid Cymru manifestos.

RPS/ABO Salomon Prize 2017

London Symphony Orchestra violinist Lennox Mackenzie has been awarded the RPS/ABO Salomon Prize for orchestral musicians for his “innate ability, love of music, generosity of spirit” and his “wisdom, strength of character, good judgement and diplomacy that has served the LSO well over so many years”.

General Election Statement

To maintain our success in the global industry, the orchestral sector requires support from the next Government. This is why the ABO is calling on all political parties to commit to supporting Britain’s orchestral sector in their 2017 General Election manifesto.
