On 11 December 2018 the Association of British Orchestras will be holding a parliamentary reception in the Scottish Parliament Building, Edinburgh to celebrate the work of its Scottish members and to celebrate the work and achievements of Classical music in Scotland.
Jenny Jamison of Scottish Ensemble and Peter Bellingham of Sinfonia Cymru have both recently been appointed to the ABO Board at the AGM on Tuesday 28th November 2018.
Professor Linda Merrick, Principal of the Royal Northern College of Music, is the first music conservatoire Principal to be appointed to the Board of the Association of British Orchestras (ABO) – the trade body which represents all UK professional and youth orchestras – at a critical time for the sector.
The ABO has announced the second year of its Sirens programme, awards made to raise awareness of historic women composers in orchestral programming. The successful applicants for funding in the 2019/20 season have devised distinctive projects with significant and/or repeat performances, and a public engagement element.
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra violinist David Rimbault has been awarded the 2018 RPS/ABO Salomon Prize for orchestral musicians.
In celebration of its 70th anniversary, the ABO has created a special website with a timeline of achievements by the ABO and its members over the past 70 years, as well as information on British orchestras today.
On 13 March 2018 the Association of British Orchestras celebrated its 70th Anniversary with a parliamentary reception attended by Minister for Culture Michael Ellis MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Culture Tom Watson MP, and the Rt Hon Harriet Harman MP.
The ABO Conference dinner on 25 January 2018 saw the presentation of ABO Awards and the ABO/Rhinegold Awards for Orchestra Manager, Concert Hall Manager and Artist Manager of the Year.
